Rafael dos Anjos

Fighting July 9
May 4, 2022
Dos Anjos is finalizing a lightweight main event fight against Rafael Fiziev for a UFC event on July 9, Brett Okamoto of ESPN.com reports.
Though the fight has not been made official, it appears as though dos Anjos' next fight will be this summer. Both dos Anjos and Fiziev stand 5-foot-8, but Fiziev has a one inch reach advantage over dos Anjos. In 30 UFC fights, dos Anjos has four victories via submission, most of his other wins coming via decision. He will be put to the test against Fiziev, who has a 95 percent takedown defense while landing on 50 percent of his own takedown attempts.

Obliterates Renato Moicano
March 5, 2022
Dos Anjos defeated Renato Moicano via unanimous decision (49-44, 49-45, 50-44) at UFC 272 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
Facing an opponent who accepted this fight on four days' notice after Rafael Fiziev was forced to withdraw due to a positive COVID-19 test, RDA put forth an epic beating on Moicano. He got the better of virtually all the stand-up exchanges between the two men and finished with a 179-99 edge in total strikes landed. Dos Anjos also landed 5-of-15 takedown attempts, good for 13:22 worth of control time in a 25-minute bout. Moicano never should have been allowed to see the final bell considering how dominant RDA was for the duration of this bout. Dos Anjos had a rough run at welterweight and is now 37 years of age, but he's much better suited to the lightweight division and still has plenty of gas left in the tank. It wouldn't be the least bit surprising to see the UFC attempt to re-book the Fiziev matchup. RDA was scheduled to be the betting underdog for that one.
Remaining on card against Moicano
March 1, 2022
Dos Anjos will be able to remain on Saturday's card after Renato Moicano agreed to step in against him Tuesday, Damon Martin of MMAFighting.com reports.
Dos Anjos had been set to face Rafael Fiziev, but Fiziev withdrew Monday after coming down with COVID-19. Moicano agreed to replace him on very short notice and will be fighting for the second time in four weeks, having dispatched Alexander Hernandez via second-round submission on Feb. 12. The fight will take place at the catchweight of 160 pounds and will remain as a five-round co-headliner.
Opponent withdraws
February 28, 2022
Dos Anjos is without an opponent for his scheduled Saturday fight after Rafael Fiziev withdrew due to COVID-19 on Monday, Shaheen Al-Shatti of The Athletic reports.
The bout has already faced one prior delay, as it was originally scheduled to take place on Feb. 19. The UFC could presumably bump the fight back again, but the promotion is reportedly trying to find a new opponent for dos Anjos on very short notice. Renato Moicano has been one fighter to throw his name into the ring, and Paul Felder has also hinted at coming out of retirement for a rematch of the November 2020 fight that ended via split decision.
Fight moved back two weeks
February 11, 2022
Dos Anjos' upcoming lightweight fight against Rafael Fiziev will now take place March 5 at UFC 272 in Las Vegas, MMA reporter Ariel Helwani reports.
The bout was originally set for Feb. 19 in Las Vegas, but was pushed back two weeks due to issues with Fiziev's visa. The matchup will remain a five-round affair on its new date.
Facing Rafael Fiziev in Vegas
January 7, 2022
Dos Anjos will face Rafael Fiziev in Las Vegas on Feb. 19, Brett Okamoto of ESPN.com reports.
Dos Anjos had lost four out of five fights before earning a five-round split-decision win over Paul Felder in his most recent match. That came all the way back in November of 2020, as he was forced to withdraw from his lone scheduled 2021 fight against Islam Makhachev due to injury. In Fiziev, he'll face an opponent who's won five straight fights. Their matchup is expected to headline the UFC Fight Night card.
