No-shows title fight
FeatherweightUFC
April 9, 2022
Jung failed in his quest to become the UFC Featherweight Champion on Saturday, falling to Alexander Volkanovski via TKO (punches) at 0:45 of Round 4 at UFC 273 in Jacksonville.
ANALYSIS
The UFC originally intended to go with Max Holloway v. Volkanovski here, but they were forced to call an audible when Holloway was forced to withdraw due to injury. Jung received the opportunity despite the fact he was just 3-2 in his prior five fights, and he was predictably routed in a fight in which he entered as an overwhelming +500 underdog. Jung spent the duration of the fight serving as a punching bag for the champion. He had zero answers for the hand speed of Volkanovski, with the few punches he was able to land coming on wild counter strikes. The Zombie is ridiculously tough, as shown here, but he's 35 years of age now and has fought just seven times since August 2013 due to his mandatory military service in his native South Korea. There is an overwhelming chance this was his final opportunity at UFC gold.

Cruises past Dan Ige
FeatherweightUFC
June 19, 2021
Jung defeated Dan Ige via unanimous decision (48-47, 49-46, 49-46) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
It was an emphatic bounce-back effort from the Zombie on the heels of his crushing, lopsided loss at the hands of Brian Ortega last October. Jung was routed on the feet in that fight against an opponent who isn't known for his striking, but the Zombie did a much better job in that area against Ige. He used his large frame to limit Ige's space, and for the most part, kept his stand-up attacks basic and direct. It was a strategy that worked. Jung scored takedowns in multiple rounds, including Round 3 when he was credited with a whopping 4:43 worth of control time in the five minute frame. It was a complete performance in a bout in which Jung entered as a +130 underdog. The Zombie is now 4-2 since returning from his near four-year hiatus back in February 2017. Now 34 years old, Jung is going to have to keep stringing together victories in order to move up the ranks at 145 pounds.

His opponent, Ige, publicly called for this matchup after his previous victory over Gavin Tucker in March.
Turning focus to spring fight
FeatherweightUFC
December 2, 2020
Jung said Tuesday that he's targeting a return to the Octagon in March or April after he underwent a procedure to address a knee ligament injury that he sustained prior to his Oct. 17 fight with Brian Ortega, Nolan King of USA Today reports.
ANALYSIS
Despite being less than 100 percent for the fight in Abu Dhabi, Jung turned in a game effort in the loss to Ortega, taking the bout three rounds before losing via unanimous decision. After returning to his native South Korea following the fight, Jung said he required a "simple" procedure to address the injury he suffered while training ahead of the loss to Ortega. Jung noted that he's hopeful to book a matchup with Zabit Magomedsharipov, which would set him up for a potential featherweight title fight if he's able to come away with a victory.
