Closes show against Frankie Edgar
Vera defeated Frankie Edgar via KO (front kick) at 3:50 of Round 3 at UFC 268 on Saturday in New York City.
ANALYSIS
Vera started very slowly, and this fight was tied entering Round 3, so credit "Chito" for figuring it out and emerging with the victory. Vera found himself planted on his back for the vast majority of Round 1. He was in a similar situation early in Round 2, but worked his way back to his feet and began to take control of the bout on the feet. His used his length to limit Edgar's striking attempts and land combinations of his own. The fight was trending towards a Vera decision victory, but he wisely eliminated the judges from the equation with a front kick right up the gut which cracked an unsuspecting Edgar in the jaw and forced referee Todd Anderson to (correctly) immediately step in and halt the proceedings. Everyone is well aware a win over Frankie doesn't mean half as much as it did even a year ago at this time, but all Vera can do is fight the guys they put in front of him. The soon-to-be 29-year-old has won three of his past four dating back to August 2020. He'll also take home a $50,000 Performance of the Night bonus for the highlight-reel finish.

ANALYSIS
Vera has alternated wins and losses over his last five fights -- considering he won his last one over Davey Grant in June, he'll be hoping the pattern doesn't continue. Vera has two-inch advantages in height and reach over Edgar.

Gets revenge on Davey Grant
Vera defeated Davey Grant via unanimous decision (29-27, 29-28, 30-26) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Vera gets his revenge on Grant after the latter won the first bout between the two via unanimous decision back in February 2016. Vera has had difficulty beating top-tier fighters over the course of his career, but he is generally terrific. Saturday was no exception. Vera pressured Grant, was accurate with his strike attempts, and landed both of his takedown attempts for 5:15 worth of control time. Vera was so dominant in Round 3 that he deserved a clear 10-8 score for the frame. While he was a clear winner, the back-and-forth affair will still earn both men a $50,000 Fight of the Night bonus. Vera's next project will be to string together some type of winning streak. He has alternated wins and losses in his past five fights dating back to October 2019.
