Star performance in main event win
January 15, 2022
Kattar defeated Giga Chikadze via unanimous decision (50-45, 50-45, 50-44) at UFC on ESPN 32 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
In his most recent bout 364 days ago, Kattar dropped a unanimous decision to Max Holloway. In that fight, Max attempted 746 total strikes, landing 447 of them. A year later, Calvin flipped the script, putting an epic beating on Chikadze that we won't soon forget. It's nothing short of a miracle that the latter saw the final bell. Kattar was able to score a takedown midway through Round 1 which seemed to zap all of Giga's energy, and Calvin's all-world striking skills and aggressiveness took him the rest of the way. He was constantly in Chikadze's face, making his life miserable. Calvin fired off punches, kicks, elbows, forearms and anything else you can think of at his opponent. It was a true standout performance that displayed how good Kattar still is and reminds us what a legend Holloway is. The featherweight division has no shortage of high-end opponents available, and Kattar is going to get one of them his next time out. What an effort this was. No surprisingly, he'll also take home a $50,000 Fight of the Night bonus here, despite not absorbing anywhere near the damage his opponent did.

Kattar has gone 2-1 over his last three UFC bouts and still appears worthy of "contender" status, but he'll face a tough task against a streaking kickboxer in Chikadze.
