Aspen Ladd

Second straight defeat
April 9, 2022
Ladd lost to Raquel Pennington via unanimous decision (28-29, 28-29, 28-29) at UFC 273 on Saturday in Jacksonville.
Ladd finished strong the final two or three minutes, but she was routed over the course of the first two rounds, and this fight wasn't as close as the scores would lead you to believe. Aspen appeared confused and hesitant in the prolonged striking exchanges between the two women. She allowed Pennington to constantly get off first and was only able to consistently connect with counter shots. Ladd would have been much better served to go for consistent takedowns in hopes her advantage in the strength department would win out, but it wasn't meant to be. Ladd missed nearly two full years worth of action from December 2019 to October 2021 due to a serious knee injury. She has now dropped back-to-back decisions since returning and finds herself in must-win mode her next time out.

Slated for opponent swap at UFC 273
March 26, 2022
Ladd will no longer take on Irene Aldana at UFC 273, with Raquel Pennington appearing to be the tabbed replacement, Marcel Dorff of reports.
It's unclear what is causing the opponent change for Ladd, but Aldana has apparently had to withdraw from the card for an undisclosed reason. Fortunately, she looks to have found a replacement quickly and the bout should go on as scheduled.
Looking to bounce back in April
December 30, 2021
Ladd will take on Irene Aldana in a bantamweight bout at the UFC event April 9, Carlos Contreras Legaspi of ESPN Deportes reports.
Ladd was destroyed in her last outing in October by Norma Dumont. That came after a lengthy layoff dating back to December of 2019. She will face a fighter in Aldana who is 6-4 with the UFC and is coming off a victory back in July.
No-shows loss following long layoff
October 16, 2021
Ladd lost to Norma Dumont via unanimous decision (46-49, 46-49, 47-48) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
Dominick Cruz claims Octagon rust isn't real, but anyone who watched Ladd in this fight would be able to tell you exactly the opposite. Fighting for the first time since December 2019 due to a serious knee injury, Ladd looked like a shell of her former self. She built her reputation upon aggressiveness and putting constant pressure on her opposition, but Ladd spent the first three rounds Saturday doing absolutely nothing. She ATTEMPTED a grand total of 16 strikes over the course of the first 15 minutes. It got so bad that Ladd's corner was literally screaming at her in between rounds to do something. She picked up the pace a bit in Rounds 4 and 5, but the damage was already done. This had the look of a fighter dealing with a mental block in her first fight in nearly two years. The good news is that Ladd is still just 26 years of age despite the time away. That said, she needs a rebound effort her next time out.
Stepping in to face Dumont
October 6, 2021
Ladd will fight Norma Dumont in a five-round, featherweight bout at the UFC event on Oct. 16, Brett Okamoto of reports.
Holly Holm was forced to withdraw from the headliner with Dumont due to a knee injury, and Ladd will step in on short notice. Ladd was scheduled to take on Macy Chiasson in a bantamweight bout last weekend, but the fight was canceled after Ladd missed weight. Ladd will now move up to featherweight to take on Dumont a couple weeks later.
Fight scrapped
October 1, 2021
Ladd's fight against Macy Chiasson has been removed from Saturday's UFC card because Ladd exceeded her weigh-in limit, Damon Martin of reports.
Ladd was originally slated to fight Chiasson in July, but Chiasson had to postpone the match due to a foot injury. Ladd has still yet to compete in her first fight since recovering from a torn ACL and MCL in June. The two bantamweights will have to wait for their next chance to fight, which could be a while.
