Ufko was drafted 115th overall by the Predators at the 2021 NHL Draft on Saturday.
A sub 6-foot defenseman with a mediocre set of wheels wouldn't appear to be in particularly high demand. Of course, that description accurately describes Rangers rearguard Adam Fox
, who won the Norris Trophy this past season as the NHL's top defenseman. It also describes Ufko, who posted 39 points in 53 games for the USHL Champion Chicago Steel this past year. There isn't a dynamic element to Ufko's game, but his extremely high hockey IQ allows him to be a positive contributor in all three zones. The Long Island native is headed to a University of Massachusetts program that has produced the likes of Cale Makar
and Zachary Jones
over the course of the last few years.
