Sutton initially traveled the expected path for a second-round pick, topping 700 yards as a rookie (2018) and 1,100 in his second season. Things got off track with an ACL tear Week 1 of Year 3, and while he made it back last year to play 17 games, his receiving output was minimal. Sutton actually got off to a nice start with 471 yards and two TDs through six weeks, only to go the rest of the year without scoring a touchdown nor reaching 70 yards in a game. Those first six weeks accounted for 54 percent of Sutton's total targets and 61 percent of his yards. And while ugly QB play helps explain the poor efficiency, it's harder to excuse Sutton's 19.0 percent target share, a massive dip compared to his 2019 breakout (25.8 percent). Sure, the Broncos had a deep group of pass catchers, but there was no dominant force among the bunch and Jerry Jeudy missed seven games. The hope now in Denver is for either Sutton, Jeudy or both to become a true No. 1 WR, with the help of new franchise QB Russell Wilson and coach Nathaniel Hackett (former Packers OC). There's competition for targets between Sutton, Jeudy and 2020 second-round pick KJ Hamler after Tim Patrick suffered a torn ACL early in training camp, but the addition of Wilson gives Sutton a nice chance to rebound and perhaps even exist simultaneously with Jeudy as a fantasy asset. With the 26-year-old moving past the minor shoulder issue, he can now resume building his on-field chemistry with new franchise quarterback Russell Wilson. With Tim Patrick (knee) set the miss the coming season, Sutton and Jerry Jeudy profile as the Broncos' clear-cut top options at wide receiver, with their fantasy prospects bolstered by the likelihood that they'll see steady volume and benefit from the upgrade Wilson presents at quarterback.

One of the breakout stars of 2019, Sutton tore his ACL in Week 1 last year and missed the rest of the season. Sutton put up impressive numbers in 2019, his second year in the league - 15.4 YPC, 8.9 YPT, six catches of 40-plus yards on 125 targets, despite playing with Drew Lock, Joe Flacco and Brandon Allen. At 6-4, 216, and running a 4.54 40, Sutton is huge for a wideout, and fast enough to get down the field where his catch radius and athleticism allow him to outmatch defensive backs. In fact, Sutton led the NFL in drawn pass interference penalties too, something that doesn't show up in the box score. Sutton's ACL recovery is going well -- he was already running routes in March and was cleared for the start of training camp in late July and for a preseason appearance in late August. The bigger issue is that Teddy Bridgewater is slated to be the team's starter, putting a ceiling on the team's passing game. Moreover, though a healthy Sutton is probably still the Broncos' top target, second-year pro Jerry Jeudy could push him for that role, and Tim Patrick, KJ Hamler and tight end Noah Fant should also be involved.

Sutton was one of several young receivers who broke out in 2019, managing 15.4 YPC (7th) and 8.9 YPT (11th), despite adjusting to a variety of low-end quarterbacks throughout the season. At 6-3, 218, Sutton is a downfield playmaker despite average timed speed (4.54 40). His size, length, athleticism and catch radius allow him to go over top of defensive backs even when he hasn't created much separation - six catches of 40-plus (T-7th) and 18 of 20-plus (T-8th) on 125 targets (18th). Sutton was also active in the red zone with 20 targets (T-8th), including nine from inside the 10 (T-9th), and he tied for the league lead in pass interference penalties drawn with eight. Of some concern is Sutton's drop-off once Emmanuel Sanders was traded - his per-game numbers fell by 1.1 catches and 19.7 yards. But Sutton will have two strong complements - and also more competition for targets - after the Broncos drafted Jerry Jeudy in the first and KJ Hamler in the second round. Hamler profiles more as a slot receiver and deep threat, while Jeudy will run routes all over the field opposite Sutton. Suddenly, second-year quarterback Drew Lock has a loaded offense, which includes 2019 first-round pick Noah Fant at tight end and free-agent signee Melvin Gordon in the backfield, but Sutton is still the favorite to lead the team in targets.

Taken with the 40th pick in the 2018 draft, Sutton got an extended opportunity with the Broncos after Demaryius Thomas was traded midseason. The results were passable under the circumstances - Sutton managed 8.4 YPT, 16 catches of 20-plus and three catches of 40-plus yards on 84 targets with Case Keenum at quarterback. At 6-3, 218, Sutton is a substantial receiver with a large catch radius, making him a good candidate for red-zone looks, even though he had only eight last year. He's not especially swift - 4.54 40 speed is roughly average for a receiver his size - and he dropped nine passes (10.7 percent of his targets) last year. Sutton should have a significant role again this season, though last year's top target, Emmanuel Sanders, appears to be back from an Achilles injury, and the team drafted tight end Noah Fant in the first round. More important, the Broncos' passing game - especially with newly signed Joe Flacco under center - projects to be among the league's worst.

Taken with the 40th pick in the draft, Sutton has a promising future, but enters the year as at best the Broncos' No. 3 target behind stalwarts Emmanuel Sanders and Demaryius Thomas. At 6-3, 218, and with a large catch radius, Sutton profiles as a good red-zone target - he scored 22 TDs his final two seasons in college - but his 4.54 40 speed is merely average for even a big receiver. GM John Elway believes Sutton can take over as the team's No. 1 eventually, but barring an injury to Thomas and Sanders, the rookie likely have to wait at least another year.
