2022 Tournament PreviewTexas finished fourth in the Big 12 before going one-and-done in the conference tournament, but the Longhorns' season starts now as new coach Chris Beard was hired for one thing: to win in the NCAA Tournament, which Texas has not done since 2014. As expected with a Beard-coached team, Texas is strong defensively, ranking 13th in efficiency (per KenPom) and 14th in opponent turnover rate. But the Longhorns are prone to offensive inconsistency and turnovers (158th). Utah transfer Timmy Allen (12.3 ppg, 6.5 rpg) and Minnesota transfer Marcus Carr (10.9 ppg, 3.2 apg) are playing their best basketball after slow starts, giving Texas a quartet of senior starters with Andrew Jones (10.7 ppg) and Courtney Ramey (9.3 PPG), the team's best three-pointer shooter (35.6 percent). The loss of 6-9 Tre Mitchell (8.7 PPG) could be an issue as the team lack size (121st in rebounding rate). Texas is capable of making a run, but it's no lock to make it out of the opening weekend for the first time since 2008.
