2022 Tournament PreviewThe Volunteers are back in the NCAA Tournament after getting bounced in the first round last year, returning several upperclassmen in addition to newcomer Kennedy Chandler (13.8 ppg, 4.6 apg). The five-star freshman is one of three Volunteers to shoot at least 35 percent from three-point range, joined by junior Santiago Vescovi (13.4 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 3.1 apg) at 39.6 percent and fellow freshman Zakai Zeigler (8.8 ppg) at 35.9 percent. Defense is still the primary strength, however, as the Vols are third in the nation defensive efficiency, per KenPom, thanks to aggressive pressure that creates steals (8th) and turnovers (15th). Tennessee struggles to score on the interior where 6-9 senior John Fulkerson (7.3 ppg, 4.8 rpg) has seen his numbers dip after battling injuries early. Still, the Vols have overcome the fifth-toughest schedule (per KenPom) to have 11 Quad 1 wins without a loss in Quads 2-4, making them among the most battled-tested teams in the tournament.
