2022 Tournament PreviewHouston won the American Athletic regular-season and tournament titles despite not having any of last season's top-7 scorers available, and now Kelvin Sampson's crew has its sights set on returning to the Final Four. The Cougars are one of four teams in the nation ranked top 15 in both offensive (10th) and defensive (11th) efficiency (per KenPom), going 10-1 in Quad 2 with no Quad 3-4 losses. Texas Tech transfer Kyler Edwards (13.6 ppg, 6.0 rpg, 3.2 apg), who has national title game experience, steadied the backcourt after guard Marcus Sasser was lost for the season. But Houston has stayed competitive due to its frontcourt, ranking third in the nation in offensive rebounding rate and 13th in block rate. The 6-8 Fabian White (13.2 ppg and 5.7 rpg, 1.5 bpg) is a major factor, while 6-11 UConn transfer Josh Carlton (12.0 ppg, 6.4 rpg, 1.2 bpg) has had a breakout season. Don't sleep on the Cougars.
