2022 Tournament PreviewAuburn was the nation's No. 1-ranked team before three February losses. Auburn also dropped dropped its SEC tourney opener after winning the regular-season title. But don't overlook the Tigers. Auburn is eighth in defensive efficiency (per KenPom), thanks to its strength in the post where 7-1 UNC transfer Walker Kessler (11.7 ppg, 8.2 rpg) is second in the nation with 4.5 blocks per game. Alongside him is 6-10 freshman and likely NBA lottery pick Jabari Smith (17.1 ppg, 7.0 rpg, 1.0 bpg). The duo helps Auburn lead the nation in block rate and rank fourth against two-point attempts. Sophomores Wendell Green (12.1 ppg, 5.0 apg, 1.6 spg) and K.D. Johnson (12.3 ppg, 2.0 spg) are solid defenders who split ball-handling duty, but other than Smith, who shoots 42.8 percent from three-point range, Auburn doesn't light it up from outside (32.0 percent, 258th). Nevertheless, the Tigers should be hungry following a self-imposed 2020-21 postseason ban.
