Newton announced Thursday via his personal Twitter account that he has committed to UConn, joining the program as a transfer from East Carolina.
ANALYSIS
Newton broke out in a big way during the 2021-22 campaign, averaging 17.7 points, 5.0 assists and 4.8 rebounds per contest -- all career-best mark-- while shooting a career-best 43.5 percent from the field. He'll likely have to sacrifice some usage as he heads to a more talented UConn program, but Newton is still likely to be the heir apparent at point guard with RJ Cole set to move on to the professional ranks.
