2022 Fantasy Outlook
If Mayza were right-handed, he would have a case as a potential closer. He is extremely tough to elevate, tough to barrel up, suppresses overall hard contact and does not hurt himself with walks. He has all the qualities we want in a late-inning reliever, but he is a two-pitch lefty in a Toronto bullpen that has just him and Ryan Borucki throwing from the left side. Still, Mayza has earned his way into late-inning work and grabbed five wins in his role last season. The return of Julian Merryweather and the addition of Yimi Garcia to the picture could in theory cloud Mayza's return to an eighth-inning role, but these skills will not be marginalized into lower-leverage situations. He has some appeal in deeper AL formats as a reserve pick so long as he is in a position to vulture decisions. Read Past Outlooks

Getting second opinion
Mayza is set to receive a second opinion on his inflamed left forearm later this week and remains optimistic that he'll spend close to the minimum amount of time on the 15-day injured list, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports.
ANALYSIS
When players seek a second opinion, it's often an indication that the first one didn't provide a favorable prognosis, but manager Charlie Montoyo suggested that isn't the case for Mayza. Instead, Mayza's initial MRI has apparently turned up favorable results, but the right-hander will still get another checkup just to ensure he's not dealing with a more serious injury. Before the injury surfaced, Mayza had been the top setup man for closer Jordan Romano (illness) this season, logging seven holds and a 2.08 ERA through his first 15 appearances.

2019 Fantasy Outlook
Mayza was up and down between Triple-A and the majors seven times throughout the 2018 campaign, bolstering the Blue Jays' bullpen depth as needed. In the end, the lefty had the second-lowest ERA among Toronto relievers with at least 20 appearances with the team, and the underlying numbers mostly support what he did. Mayza struck batters out at a 26.5% clip and rode a slightly-above-average groundball rate to a 0.76 HR/9. Lefty hitters combined for just a .252 wOBA and 21.4% hard-hit rate against Mayza. His K-BB% against same-handed hitters was 27.4%. Right-handers enjoyed a lot more success against Mayza, though they combined for just a 15.1% line-drive rate. He recorded one lone hold last season, but that number figures to spike in 2019 as Mayza currently projects to open the year as Toronto's top lefty reliever.
