The most recent fantasy soccer injury updates from the Premier League.

Injury News Updates:

English Premier League (EPL)

Major League Soccer (MLS)

Kurt Zouma    D    Stoke City
Zouma is ineligible to play Saturday against Chelsea due to the terms of his loan agreement.

Fantasy Analysis

Zouma has been a steady starter as part of Stoke's back-three, and his absence Saturday may move them back to their previous four-man back line, with Kevin Wimmer and Bruno Mardins Indi playing centrally.
Manuel Lanzini    M    West Ham United
West Ham are not expecting Lanzini to return to action until after the October international break after his recovery stalled, according to the Daily Mail.

Fantasy Analysis

The midfielder returned to training recently, but has not managed to make significant progress toward a return to action. Manager Slaven Bilic said the team does not want to risk the player returning too soon, and expects him back following the international break next month.
Pedro    F/M    Chelsea
Pedro was removed at halftime of Sunday's match against Arsenal because of a knock to his ankle, manager Antonio Conte confirmed to Vaishali Bhardwaj of the London Evening Stardard.

Fantasy Analysis

The severity of Pedro's injury is unclear, but if he has to miss any additional time, Willian could keep a spot in the starting XI.
Jamie Vardy    F    Leicester City
Vardy was subbed off late in Saturday's match against Huddersfield because of a slight groin injury, the Leicester Mercury reports.

Fantasy Analysis

Vardy converted from the penalty spot for the second consecutive match, but he was removed on 82 minutes because of the slight issue. The injury appears to not be serious, though it certainly puts his availability for next Saturday's match against Liverpool in question. If Vardy has to miss any time, Kelechi Iheanacho, Islam Slimani and Shinji Okazaki will get opportunities for more playing time.
Luke Shaw    D    Manchester United
Shaw (leg) is not in the match-day squad for Sunday's match with Everton.

Fantasy Analysis

Shaw's fitness has been improving steadily over the past couple weeks, but it still isn't to the level that it needs to be. Ashley Young will start at left-back Sunday.
David Luiz    D    Chelsea
Luiz was sent off in the 87th minute of Sunday's match against Arsenal with a straight red card for a dangerous tackle on Sead Kolasinac.

Fantasy Analysis

Luiz picked up a yellow card earlier in the match for striking Laurent Koscielny on a bicycle kick attempt, and he'll now miss Chelsea's next three domestic matches, though only two will be Premier League affairs. He'll be eligible to return Oct. 14 against Crystal Palace, with Antonio Rudiger possibly starting in his absence.
Danny Welbeck    F    Arsenal
Welbeck was forced off in the 73rd minute of Sunday's match against Chelsea because of a suspected groin injury.

Fantasy Analysis

Welbeck pulled up lame after chasing down a pass from Alexis Sanchez and immediately called for the physios. He has been a solid performer for the Gunners this season, though his injury will likely immediately push Alexis Sanchez back into the first XI.
Mesut Ozil    M    Arsenal
Ozil (knock) failed to pass a late fitness test and is not in the 18-man squad to face Chelsea on Sunday.

Fantasy Analysis

Ozil's absence is a tough hit for the Gunners, who will also have Alexis Sanchez on the bench. Alex Iwobi will start in Ozil's absence.
Dele Alli    M    Tottenham Hotspur
Alli had three shots, none on goal, four key passes, one successful dribble, one cross, one interception, completed 86 percent of his 50 passes and was fouled five times Saturday against Swansea.

Fantasy Analysis

Alli fantasy owners are paying the price for Tottenham's slow start. Tottenham have only scored seven goals in their first five matches this season, meaning players like Alli are not performing up to the lofty standards of other top tier fantasy players. Alli looks his normal self, in fact he is creating more chances per match this season (2.2) than he has over the course of his career. Presumably when he and Tottenham regain their shooting touch, Alli will again be a top tier fantasy attacker. Tottenham play at West Ham United Saturday. West Ham have been the worst defending team in the league this season, so it may not be time to give up on Alli (though West Ham did keep a clean sheet their only other home match this season).
Leon Britton    M    Swansea City
Britton (back) is not in the match day squad for Saturday's match with Tottenham.

Fantasy Analysis

Britton was deemed fit prior to the match, but is not in the squad. Renato Sanches, Tom Carroll, and Sam Clucas will hold down the midfield in a tough matchup.
Ben Davies    D    Tottenham Hotspur
Davies is on the bench for Saturday's match with Swansea.

Fantasy Analysis

Davies had become a great fantasy piece to start the season with Danny Rose (knee) out injured. Davinson Sanchez and Kieran Trippier will start at outside-back.
Steve Mounie    F    Huddersfield Town
Mounie (undisclosed) is not in the match day squad for Saturday's match with Leicester City.

Fantasy Analysis

Mounie was unable to recover in time, which makes room for Laurent Depoitre in the starting XI.
Ryan Shawcross    D    Stoke City
Shawcross (back) is not in the match day squad for Saturday's match with Newcastle.

Fantasy Analysis

Shawcross will miss his second straight match. He'll hope to return next Saturday against Chelsea.
Oliver Burke    M    West Bromwich Albion
Burke (hamstring) is not in the 18-man match day squad for Saturday's match with West Ham.

Fantasy Analysis

Burke's continued absence hurts West Brom's depth, but not many fantasy lineups.
Nacer Chadli    M    West Bromwich Albion
Chadli (thigh) is not in the match day squad for Saturday's match with West Ham.

Fantasy Analysis

Chadli will miss his second straight match. James Morrison will start in an attacking-mid role.
Vincent Kompany    D    Manchester City
Kompany (calf) is not in the 18-man match day squad for Saturday's match with Watford.

Fantasy Analysis

Kompany comes as no surprise as the Belgian defender was a doubt coming into the match. Nicolas Otamendi and John Stones will start at center-back in a match which they are heavily favored in.
Christian Fuchs    D    Leicester City
Fuchs (eye) is not in the 18-man match day squad for Saturday's match with Huddersfield.

Fantasy Analysis

Fuchs suffered a bizarre eye injury in training that will keep him out Saturday. Ben Chilwell comes into the starting XI in place of Fuchs.
Robert Huth    D    Leicester City
Huth (ankle) is not in the match day squad for Saturday's match with Huddersfield.

Fantasy Analysis

Huth will likely get another run out with the U23 team to build his fitness before possibly making the squad for next Saturday's match with Liverpool.
Matty James    M/D    Leicester City
James (Achilles) is not in the 18-man match day squad for Saturday's match with Huddersfield.

Fantasy Analysis

James picked up the injury earlier in the week, which was enough to keep him sidelined, Andy King and Wilfried Ndidi will marshal the midfield Saturday.
Jeff Hendrick    M    Burnley
Hendrick (calf) is not in the match day squad for Saturday's match with Liverpool.

Fantasy Analysis

Hendrick was fit going into the match, which makes his absence likely performance-based. He'll have to wait for next Saturday's match with Huddersfield to make his return.
Charlie Austin    F    Southampton
Austin is not in the 18-man squad to face Crystal Palace on Saturday.

Fantasy Analysis

Saints boss Mauricio Pellegrino failed to mention any injury with Austin, so the reason for his absence remains unclear. With Manolo Gabbiadini on the bench against the Eagles, Shane Long will lead the attack.
Isaiah Brown    F    Brighton & Hove Albion
Brown (hamstring) is not in the 18-man match day squad for Friday's match with Bournemouth.

Fantasy Analysis

Brown's return to training this week was a good sign that his condition is improving, though Friday will come to soon for the attacker.
Danny Drinkwater    M    Chelsea
Drinkwater (calf) could be out until October, according to manager Antonio Conte.

Fantasy Analysis

Drinkwater has yet to feature this season after dealing with a thigh injury and now a calf injury. It could take awhile for Drinkwater to make his way into the starting XI once he has overcome his current injury.
Sebastian Prodl    D    Watford
Prodl (undisclosed) is progressing faster than originally expected.

Fantasy Analysis

Prodl is expected to start pitch-based training later this week -- effectively ruling him out against Manchester City.
Younes Kaboul    D    Watford
Kaboul is still being assessed for a hamstring injury suffered against Southampton.

Fantasy Analysis

With no information yet regarding the severity of Kaboul's injury -- it's hard to determine when he might be available to return to the squad. Adrian Mariappa -- who subbed on for the 31-year-old Saturday -- figures to see more minutes in the meantime.
Kiko    M/D    Watford
Kiko was taken to the hospital following Saturday's match against Southampton due to a head injury.

Fantasy Analysis

It seems the trip to the hospital was just precautionary with the club announcing Kiko was progressing well. When the defender might be back in action remains to be seen -- without Saturday's clash with Manchester City in serious doubt.
Mauro Zarate    F    Watford
Zarate (knee) played 80 minutes with the Watford U23 squad.

Fantasy Analysis

Zarate remains without a specific timeline to return to action with the first team, but fantasy owners should be encouraged by him getting into a competitive match -- even with the youngsters.
Martin Cranie    D    Huddersfield Town
As expected, Cranie (hip) was back training with the full squad.

Fantasy Analysis

Cranie has yet to suit up for the Terriers this season, but could be in contention Saturday when Leicester City visit John Smith's Stadium. Even if the defender isn't cleared in time for the Foxes, he appears to be trending in the right direction -- an encouraging sign for fantasy owners.
Massadio Haidara    D    Newcastle United
Haidara will miss Saturday's match with Stoke City due to a knee injury.

Fantasy Analysis

Haidara's absence is unlikely to affect many fantasy lineups as he has yet to feature this season.
Paul Dummett    D    Newcastle United
Dummett (hamstring) will miss Saturday's match with Stoke City.

Fantasy Analysis

Dummett has yet to return after coming off in the 7th minute of the season-opening match. It's unclear when he'll be available again.
Kasey Palmer    M    Huddersfield Town
Palmer will be sidelined "for some months," after suffering a hamstring injury with the England U21 squad.

Fantasy Analysis

Although Palmer was not in the starting XI for either of his last two EPL matches, his absence will stretch Huddersfield Town's depth in the middle of the pitch. On loan from Chelsea, the midfielder was supposed to be logging minutes in order to further his development -- unfortunately those plans have been tossed out the window for the time being.
