1. The RotoWire Live Auction League (RLAL) will consist of 12 teams/managers. The RLAL regular season will extend from March 25, 2008 of the MLB regular season through the final game of the regular season (including any regular season-ending tie-breaker games if needed). If you take part in an auction after the start of the MLB season, the RLAL season will start the day after the auction. Teams will compete for accumulative stats in five offensive and five pitching categories, with each category weighted equally. Categories include: (for hitters) Batting Average, Home Runs, RBIs, Stolen Bases and Runs; (for pitchers) Wins, Saves, Earned Run Average, Strikeouts and WHIP Ratio (Walks plus Hits divided by Innings Pitched). The team at the end of the year with the most cumulative points in each league wins the league title.
2. Entry Requirements: The cost to enter a team into the RLAL is $39.99 per team. An individual can only have one team per auction. There is no limit to the total number of teams per individual. All Internet entries must be paid for before you are allowed to enter an auction.
You can pay for your entry by using the online payment option provided or by calling 888-201-3057 and giving a credit card number over the phone.
3. Eligibility: The Contest is open to individuals who have reached legal age in their respective jurisdiction. Individuals who have not reached legal age in their respective jurisdiction can enter only with permission of a parent or legal guardian. Void where prohibited by law.
4. Roster Requirements: Each RLAL team will consist of 23 active and five reserve players.
Your starting lineup must consist of the following 23 players:
- 2 Catchers
- 1 First Baseman
- 1 Second Baseman
- 1 Third Baseman
- 1 Shortstop
- 1 Corner Infielder (1B or 3B)
- 1 Middle Infielder (2B or SS)
- 5 Outfielders
- 1 Utility (any hitter)
- 9 Pitchers (any combination of starters and relievers)
There is no innings pitched minimum requirement and no minimum requirement for number of starting pitchers or relief pitchers.
All players must have played 20 games in the previous season or 10 games during the current season to qualify at a certain position. If a player didn't play at least 20 games in the majors last year, he will qualify at the position RotoWire designates as the player's primary position until he plays 10 games and qualifies at another position.
However, during the live auction draft players will only be able to be designated at one position and not moved to another position until after the completion of the draft.
Once the draft is over, players can be moved to any position based on the above requirements.
Your reserve roster can consist of any five players, regardless of position or if batter or pitcher.
5. Auction: Your team will be assigned an auction time based on your requests. Your team has a $260 budget to purchase your 28 players. At least $1 must be spent on all 28 players - no $0 bids are allowed.
A nomination order will be chosen at random and teams will be required to nominate a player to bid on for a minimum of $1 in each round. If you do not nominate a player in the required time, a player will be nominated for you at $1.
Teams will be able to enter bid amounts for players ahead of the draft in case you are disconnected from the draft or need to step away. If you are not available online or do not bid in the allocated time, we will use this list to bid on and nominate players.
You will be allowed to bid on each player up to the amount you have left in your budget, minus $1 for each roster spot left. All bids placed through the FantasyAuctioneer software are final. Typos and issues while using the Bid+1 button cannot be undone and refunds will not be given for these issues.
Players will be selected from all 30 Major League Baseball rosters and all minor-leaguers are also eligible to be drafted. If a player is not listed in the system, you won't be able to bid or nominate that player and will have to wait until he is added to the free agent pool at a later date.
6. Deadlines: You will be able to change your starting lineup on Monday of each week. You can change a player's lineup status up until the player's game begins on Monday.
7. Free Agents: The first free agent pickups will be processed at approximately 12:01am Pacific Time on
Monday, April 7. Each week free agent pickups will be processed on Monday at approximately 12:01am PT. Any time during the week you can make free agent requests for the following lineup period until 11:59 pm PT on Sunday.
Free agent requests are processed in a series of rounds just like a draft. The order is determined by reverse order of the standings. During the first round, the last place team gets the first pick. Then the second-to-last place team gets a pick and so forth. Once it gets to the first place team, the order then snakes back to the last-place team and continues to snake until all requests are processed. You need to choose a player to be released when you pick up a free agent. This released player is available in the free agent pool the following week. Any free agent that is picked up is added to a team in a reserve status. It is the responsibility of the team owner to activate any picked up free agents.
8. Trades: There are no trades in the RLAL.
9. Prizes: At the end of the season, prizes will be awarded as follows:
1st: $200
2nd: Free entry for the next season's game
3rd: Free 60-day subscription to rotowire.com
4th: Free 30-day subscription to rotowire.com
In the event of a tie, league prizes are divided evenly among the teams that have tied.
10. Distribution of prizes:
Winners at the end of the season are posted on the RLAL web site. Within 30 days of the end of the regular MLB season, prizes will be distributed. All cash prizes will be paid via check and will be sent to the mailing address associated with the winner's RotoWire account. To update your mailing address, click on the "Account Info" at the top of the RotoWire website while you are logged in. Players who win a free entry into next year's RLAL will have a note posted on their account and they will need to contact RotoWire next season via email or phone call letting us know which of their RLAL teams should get the free entry. Players who win a free subscription will receive the access time based on the preference originally selected upon signup at the beginning of the season (ex. tack on to current subscription, start immediately, start next baseball season).
